»Mad Money ll« var kommet til 384
BG i april 1943, da
enheden lå i Sioux City
her i
USA. Flyet havde deltaget i
alle de voldsomme
og tabgivende
angreb i den
mellemliggende periode og var nu
enhedens ældste fly. Over Kiel blev flyet ramt
af flak, og den erfarne
pilot, 1st Lt. William Kaczaraba, valgte
at flyve til Sverige.
Over Fyn
satte to motorer ud, og umiddelbart

»Mad Money ll« had joined the 384
BG in April 1943, when it
was stationed at Sioux City
here in
the
USA. The plane had participated in all
the
violent attacks
with heavy losses since then, and now it was the last of the 384th Bomb Group's
original planes. It was hit by flak over Kiel and the experienced
pilot
William Kaczaraba
decided to fly to Sweden. Two engines misfired over Fyn and right after
that the pilot made a perfect belly landing at Asnæs (here).
At once
the
crew
set fire to the plane and it burnt out completely. The Germans
arrived at 14.15 hours and captured the crew. The next day the 10 airmen were
taken from
Værløse
(Airfield) to
Dulag Luft Oberursel."
