On 27 September 1943 at 19.21 hrs HAL LK648 took off from  RAF Tholthorpe in Yorkshire on a bombing raid targeting Hanover.

"Aircraft crashed in North Sea. No survivors. Dinghy containing the bodies of F/Lts Hallas and Wallace picked up on October 9 1943 in position
7 Nautical miles ENE of Slugen N by fishing vessel E. 425 "Chr. Muff" and carried to Esbjerg same day. Skipper of E. 425: Christen Enevoldsen." (MACR)
