Flyet var på en minelægningsoperation, da det blev ramt af flak ved Esbjerg. Flere miner blev spredt på nedstyrtningsstedet.   

Kl. 18.20  09 JAN styrtede flyet ned ved Brøndum, omkring 10 km NNØ for Esbjerg efter at være blevet ramt af flak på udturen til Silverthorn (Kattegat),

6 besætningsmedlemmer blev begravet i Esbjerg den 14. januar 1943.
Sgt Llewellyn blev hårdt såret indlagt på Esbjerg Centralsygehus. Han døde den 15. januar 1943. Den 19. januar 1943 blev han begravet i Esbjerg.
1 flyver blev krigsfange.

It was on a minelaying operation when it was hit by flak near Esbjerg. A number of mines were spread at the crash site.

At 18.20 hrs. on 09 JAN aircraft crashed at Brøndum, about 6 miles NNE of Esbjerg after being hit by flak on the outbound journey to Silverthorn (Kattegat),

6 crew members were buried in Esbjerg on 14 January 1943.
Sgt Llewellyn was severely injured and he was taken to hospital in Esbjerg. He died on 15 January 1943. On 19 January 1943 he was buried in Esbjerg.
