Den 9. april 1945 styrtede
MOS DZ592 i Kattegat, måske omkring
her. Flyvehistorisk Tidsskrift skriver:
"9. april 1945 (kl. 17.30).
Kattegat NØ for
Skagen. Mosquito P.R. IV,
DZ592 ( - ). RAF Film Unit, 540 Squadron, Banff, Banffs.
(Anti shipping patrol i Kattegat). 2 MIA
Kl. 14.30-14.40 startede 38 Mosquitoes fra
RAF
Bannf, og kl. 15.00 skulle enheden møde 23 Mustangs over
RAF Peterhead, men det lykkedes kun 6
Mustangs fra
65 FS at få kontakt før
Mosquitoerne satte kurs mod Danmark. Formationen
nåede over Jylland og startede jagten på tyske skibe i den nordlige del af
Kattegat.
Kl. 17.22 opdagede de engelske fly to tyske u-både på positionen
58.05'N-11.10'E (omkring
her). Det var U-1065 og U-864, der nu blev udsat for en voldsom

beskydning med raketter og maskinkanoner. Først sank U-1065 med dens 45 mand
store besætning og kort efter eksploderede U-864, og trykbølgen fra eksplosionen
ramte
DZ592, der styrtede i havet.
Piloten, F/Lt William Morris Jones, og
navigatøren, F/O Alan John Newell, blev aldrig fundet.
Flyets opgave var antagelig at filme angrebet." (FT 91-9-51)

On 9 April 1945
MOS DZ592 crashed into the Kattegat, maybe about
here. (Danish) Aviation Historical Review
writes:
"9 April 1945 (17:30). The Kattegat NE of
Skagen. Mosquito P.R. IV,
DZ592 ( - ). RAF Film Unit, 540 Squadron, Banff, Banffs.
(Anti shipping patrol in the Kattegat). 2 MIA
At 14:30-14:40 38 Mosquitoes took off from
RAF
    Bannf
and at 15:00 they were to join 23 Mustangs over
RAF Peterhead,
but only 6
Mustangs
from
65 Fighter Squadron managed to make contact before the Mosquitoes headed for
Denmark. The formation flew across Jutland and started hunting German ships in

the northern part of the Kattegat. At 17.22 hours the British planes discovered
2 German U-boats at the position 58.05'N-11.10'E (about
here). Then U-1065 and
U-864 were exposed
to heavy fire from rockets and machine guns. First U-1065 sank with its crew of
45 and shortly after U-864 exploded. The blast of the explosion
hit
DZ592
which crashed into the sea.
Pilot, F/Lt William Morris Jones and Navigator, F/O Alan John Newell
were never found. Presumably the aircraft was to film the attack."
