Den 17. august 1944 styrtede HAL MZ863 i havet måske omkring her under en minelægningsoperation ved Kiel. Alle ombord omkom.

J. C. Sprott og G. Scott blev fundet ved Kegnæs (som er her) den 25. august 1944 af en grænsegendarm. De blev begravet i Aabenraa den 29. august 1944.
M. H. Fleming blev fundet den 26. august 1944. Han blev begravet den 27. august 1944 i Aaabenraa uden ceremoniel af nogen art.
Den 21. august 1944 blev liget af  J. A. Tolmie indbjerget til Bagenkop Havn. Begravelsen i Bagenkop blev foretaget af en tysk feltpræst den 23. august 1943.
T. L. Baker er begravet i Kiel. R. I. Atkinson og J. C. Valk forsvandt i havet. (Kilde: FAF)

On 17 august 1944 HAL MZ863 crashed into the sea maybe about here on a minelaying operation at Kiel. All on board perished.

On 25 August 1944 J. C. Sprott and G. Scott were found at Kegnæs (which is here) by a border gendarme. They were buried in Aabenraa on 29 August 1944.
M. H. Fleming was found on 26 August 1944. On 27 August 1944 he was buried in Aabenraa without any kind of ceremony.
On 21 August 1944 the body of J. A. Tolmie was taken to Bagenkop Harbour. On 23 August 1943 a German Army Chaplain officiated at the graveside ceremony in Bagenkop. T. L. Baker is buried in Kiel. R. I. Atkinson and J. C. Valk disappeared into the sea. (Source: FAF)

Flight Lieutenant (Pilot) John Chester Valk, 25, was the son of John and Elizabeth Valk, and the husband of Molly Georgina Valk, of Victoria, British Columbia,
Canada. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Panel 244, among more than 20,000 airmen who have no known grave. (Source: CWGC)
His name is engraved on the Memorial Wall at the BC Museum of Canada. The Canadian Virtual War Memorial has this.
He is remembered on The Walls of Names at the International Bomber Command Centre, Phase 2, Panel 257.
