Den 2. oktober 1943 var B17 42-5260 på bombetogt mod Emden (her).

Da flyet kl. 16.10 passerede de østfrisiske øer, eksploderede det i luften (måske omkring her). Hele besætningen på 10 mand og en fotograf omkom.
Et af de omkomne besætningsmedlemmer, S/Sgt H. F. Gibney Jr. blev begravet i Esbjerg den 3. december 1943.

On 2 October 1943 B17 42-5260 was on a bombing raid on Emden (here).

At 16.10 hours, when the plane passed the Ostfrisian Islands, it exploded in the air (maybe about here). The crew of 10 airmen and a photographer perished.
One of the perished crew members, S/Sgt H. F. Gibney Jr. was buried in Esbjerg on 3 December 1943.
