Villy Skaarup om flystyrtet - about the air crash                            Updated:  16 DEC 2011

Villy Skaarup var 7 år gammel, da han oplevede at Lancaster X blev skudt ned. Han fortalte om det til TV, se mere på siden TV2 ØST / TV2 EAST.
Han boede i 1943 på Taarnborgvej 11 her - se også Google Map p152Den 2. februar 2011 sendte han dette til www.airmen.dk:

"Når der var natlige overflyvninger, stod mine forældre og jeg altid i vores have for at se hvad der skete. Vi havde klart udsyn over jernbaneterræn, færgehavn og Halskov bydel. Jeg var 7 år dengang, og husker ikke alt, men noget husker jeg.

Maskinen kom fra syd, højde ca. 200 m, afstand ca. 500 m. Den blev fanget af 2 lyskastere, og der blev skudt mod den med lyssporprojektiler. Der var flere flak, både
syd og nord for havnen. Der blev desuden skudt fra skibe i havnen, og i hvert fald skød et af skibene med større kaliber end flakkene (det var tydeligt at høre forskel).
Det samme skib lå der næsten altid og blev i folkemunde kaldt ”Spærrebrækkeren”.

P.g.a. lyssporene var det tydelig at se da maskinen blev ramt, og luften var jo tyk af projektiler, så jeg ved ikke hvem der ramte, men jeg har altid ment det var skibene.

Den tabte højde, og det var tydeligt at den ville styrte ned, men da vi ikke vidste hvor den ville falde, søgte vi dækning i huset. Der gik højst et eller to minutter før der
kom et enormt blåt lysglimt og derefter braget.

Næste dag så jeg nedstyrtningsstedet. Vest for Revvej var der et bombekrater, og øst for Revvej lå vraget, der var sprængt i småstykker. Der var ca. 200 m mellem
krater og vrag. To huse nær krateret var brændt. På grund af at området nær vraget var afspærret, kunne jeg ikke komme helt tæt på, men man kunne samle små
vragdele op overalt. De sidste meter har maskinens kurs været ret øst."

"In nights with overflights my parents and I were always standing in our garden to see what happened. We had a clear view of the marshalling yard, the ferry harbour
and Halskov. I was 7 then and I do not remember everything, but I do remember something.

The aircraft came from the south, at a height of app. 200 m and a distance of app. 500 m. It was caught by 2 searchlights and it was shot at with tracer bullets.
There were a number of flak batteries, both south and north of the harbour. Ships in the harbour also fired. Anyhow, one of the ships shot with a bigger calibre than
the flaks. The sound was clearly different.  The same ship was nearly always moored there. It had a nickname in Danish ”Spærrebrækkeren” (derived from the
German name Sperrbrecher).

Due to the tracer bullets it was easy to see when the plane was hit. The air was loaded with bullets, so I do not know who hit it, but I have always thought that it was
hit from the ships.

It lost altitude and it was obvious that it was going to crash. As we did not know where it was going to fall down, we took cover in the house. Not more than one or
two minutes later there was an enormous blue flash and then the bang.

The next day I saw the crash site. There was a crater west of Revvej, and east of Revvej was the wreckage, blown to small pieces. There was about 200 m between
the crater and the wreckage. Two houses near the crater had burned. The area near the wreckage was sealed off, so I could not get very close, but small pieces of wreckage could be picked up everywhere. The last metres of the flight path were due east.”
