Den 23. april 1944 kl. 23.15 styrtede STI LJ526 på en mark ved Hovgaarden ved Øster Skerninge (her) nær Svendborg. Det blev skudt ned af en tysk natjager under en mineudlægningsoperation til Fehmarn Bælt. Hele besætningen omkom. (Kilde: AOD+p301MACR)

On 23 April 1944 at 23.15 hours STI LJ526 crashed into a field at Hovgaarden at Øster Skerninge (here) near Svendborg. It was shot down during a minelaying mission to the Fehmarn Belt by a German night fighter. All of the crew perished. (Source: AOD+p301MACR)
