Den 18. august 1943 styrtede LAN DS630 i Østersøen omkring her. Flyvehistorisk Tidsskrift skriver:
17. - 18. august 1943 (kl. 0214) Østersøen, 1 sømil SØ for Gedser, Lancaster B. II, DS630 (KO-H)  115 BS, 3 BO, Little Snoring, Norfolk. (Peenemünde) 7 MIA

596 bombefly angreb V-2 fabrikkerne ved Peenemünde. Det var eneste gang under krigen, at så mange bombefly blev sat ind mod så lille et mål.
Raketproduktionen blev hermed standset for mere end 2 måneder, og udviklingen af raketterne blev sat mærkbart tilbage, da mange af de tyske forskere omkom.
Togtet kostede 40 bombefly. Det formodes, at DS630 gik tabt SØ for Gedser, men der er aldrig fundet spor af flyet eller dets besætning." (FT 86-89-16)

On 18 August 1943 LAN DS630 crashed into the Baltic Sea about here. (Danish) Aviation Historical Review writes:
"17 - 18 August 1943 (02.14 hours) The Baltic Sea, 1 nautical mile south east of Gedser, Lancaster B. II, DS630 (KO-H)
115 BS, 3 BO, Little Snoring, Norfolk. (Peenemünde) 7 MIA.

596 bombers attacked the V-2 factories at Peenemünde (here). It was the only time during the war that so many bombers attacked such a small target.
The production of rockets was stopped for more than 2 months, and the development of rockets was slowed significantly, as so many of the German scientists
perished. The raid cost 40 bombers. Presumably DS630 was lost south east of Gedser, but no trace of the plane or its crew has ever been found." (FT 86-89-16)
