Kl. 12.00 den 1. juli 1941 lettede STI N6013 fra RAF Oakington med 2 andre fly på dagangreb mod Borkum Vandflyvebase.
Sprængninger blev observeret på beddinger og i havnen. STI N6013 blev sidst set kl. 15.11, da den cirklede omkring en gummibåd med besætningen fra et ukendt
fly og så blev angrebet af 2 jagere. F/O D.T. Witt DFM fik sit fly N6005 angrebet 4 gange i træk af en Bf 109 F, som til sidst blev skudt ned af Rear Gunner
P/O J.L.A. Mills.

Stirling N3655 blev angrebet af en jager og ramt af flak, men returnerede til basen med N6005. (p034MACR)

3 af de omkomne flyvere drev ind til den danske kyst og blev begravet i Esbjerg. 4 flyvere fra STI N6013 har ingen kendt grav.

Pilot Officer James Gordon Elliott, 32 år, var søn af George William og Ella Josie Elliott, Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada; gift med Jean L. Elliott (f. Henderson), Montreal, Canada.

At 12.00 hrs. on 1 July 1941 STI N6013 took off from RAF Oakington with 2 other aircraft on a daylight sortie to Borkum Seaplane Base.
Bursts were observed on slipways and across harbour. STI N6013 last seen at 15.11 hrs. circling dinghy with crew of unknown aircraft and then attacked
by 2 fighters. F/O D.T. Witt DFM had his aircraft N6005 attacked 4 times in succession by Bf 109 F which was finally shot down by Rear Gunner P/O J.L.A. Mills.
Stirling N3655 attacked by fighter and hit by flak but returned to base with N6005. (p034MACR)

3 of the perished airmen were washed ashore on the coast of Denmark and buried in Esbjerg. 4 airmen from STI N6013 have no known grave.

Jean L. Elliott (née Henderson), of Montreal, Canada.
