Kirkebogen for Lemvig, Skodborg herred, Ringkøbing
28, var søn af William A. og Catherine G. Millar, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. B.Sc. (University of Alberta).
Denne pilot forsvandt nær Lorient i Bretagne ud
The church
register of Lemvig on 9 February 1943 about a buried man: "Probably J.W.
Millar. Death by drowning."
For many years this grave had a headstone to Flying Officer (Pilot) John Whitla Millar,
28, was the son of William A. and Catherine G. Millar, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
B.Sc. (University of Alberta). In 2018 replaced by this headstone.
He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial, Addenda panel 291. (Source: CWGC)
Notice that it does not say any more that he is buried in Lemvig Cemetery!
This pilot disappeared near Lorient in France on
8 FEB 1943. Nothing about
when and where he was found. No body can drift so far in a few hours. Impossible that the body could be that of Flying Officer (Pilot) John Whitla Millar.
Now he has NO KNOWN GRAVE according to the CWGC.
