Den 19. marts 1940 styrtede
WHI N1405 i Nordsøen ved Sild (den tyske ø syd for Rømø).
Hele besætningen omkom.
Wireless Operator William George Newton blev fundet ilanddrevet på
stranden på Rømø (måske
omkring
her) den
26. maj 1940. Ved den af værnemagten arrangerede militærbegravelse den 28. maj
foretog sognepræst R. Jørgensen jordpåkastelsen.
Leading Aircraftman (Wireless Operator / Air
Gunner) William George Newton, 19 år, var søn
af George Isaac Newton og
Lilian Newton, Liverpool; nevø af Mrs. E. Newton, Walton, Liverpool,

On 19 March 1940
WHI N1405 crashed into the North Sea at Sylt (the German
island south of Rømø). All of the crew perished.
On 26 May 1940
Wireless Operator William George Newton was found drifted ashore on Rømø
(maybe about
here). On 28 May the Wehrmacht carried out a military burial where Vicar R.
Jørgensen officiated at the graveside.
