Allied airmen shot down over Denmark – When Vorup was bombed

The founder of a historical website about airmen has a lecture about Allied planes
including the bombing of Vorup and a Lancaster gone astray.

Anders Straarup has been a teacher at Havndal School for 37
years, where he also had a number of positions of trust. He quickly
saw the opportunities of integrating the internet into education.

After his retirement he combined his skills on a computer with his
great knowledge of history when he founded the website AirmenDK

www.airmen.dk for which he was awarded the Ellehammer
Challenge Cup in 2018. Here he is in the distinguished company of
pilot Stefan Rasmussen, professor Niels Egelund and astronaut
 Andreas Mogensen.

The material here is overwhelming and has been recognized
beyond the borders of this country for its high quality.

In his lecture on 1 February in the village hall of Aalum Anders Straarup will use local events from World War II as starting points. The bomb dropped over Vorup, the airman James Reid Bradley resting in Randers North Cemetery, and a Lancaster which crashed near Estruplund will be mentioned.

Other local angles also show that Danes were in a small corner of a very great war. Nearly all 463 planes and 3,089 airmen mentioned on AirmenDK were shot down over Denmark or Danish waters. It is important that we remember that freedom has a price, also paid by the Allied airmen presented on the website.
