70 years: Anders Straarup, Karetmagervej 25, Randers will reach seventy on
25 February.
Anders Straarup was born on a farm near Kolding. After his graduation as a
teacher and his military service he was engaged at Havndal School where he
was a
teacher and a guidance counsellor for nearly 40 years. He had a number of
positions of trust. He quickly saw the opportunities of integrating the
internet into education
and guidance counselling and for that purpose he made the website
www.linksbuketten.dk.
After his retirement he started using his skills on the internet combined
with his great historical knowledge and interest. In the first place he put
the beautiful Randers
Tapestry on the internet, so you may click on it and get a lot of
information about the history of Randers and environs.
Having completed that he entered the big project of his life
www.airmen.dk about Allied airmen who
crashed in Denmark during World War II. Personal accounts,
photos, maps, descriptions of planes and references to other sources - an
overwhelming material which has become known beyond this country and
recognized for its
high professionalism. The work has led to many contacts domestic and abroad
- and a number of lectures in Denmark, about the airmen and other
historical subjects such as the
Hvidsten Cell.
On the initiative of Anders Straarup a memorial stone at Grønhøj Kro was
erected in May 2013 to a bomber crew that crashed there. At the unveiling
ceremony there
were more than 250 attendants including a number of relatives from England
and Scotland. They were moved and grateful to have a memorial to a family
member and
to get to know what really happened.
Work continues on the Airmen-website, but Anders Straarup has energy for
more and likes an active outdoor life, so he still participates in
orienteering with his friends, officers of the reserve.
