Flyet kredsede i ca.1 time, medens det langsomt tabte højde. Kl. 18.28 brød flyet gennem skydækket." (FT 88-40-27)

"272 B-17s from 1 BD flew to Stettin (here) and Stralsund (here), and 10 were lost. The formation was attacked by German fighters on the return flight, and
42  107082 slid out of the formation with the left wing on fire and two feathered engines. Pilot, 1st Lt Robert M. Dunn Jr. gave the order to abandon the plane at
15:30, and all 9 crew members bailed out. All of them landed unhurt at Gingst (here) on Rügen (in Germany), and they were soon captured by the Germans,
who were unable to find the wreck of the plane. After further investigations the Germans concluded that the plane had continued over the Baltic Sea and had
exploded in the air.

It was quite right that the plane had continued over the Baltic Sea, but it went on to Stevns, where people at 17:30 could hear engine noise from a plane which
circled over the cloud cover. The plane circled about 1 hour, slowly losing altitude. At 18:28 the plane broke through the cloud cover." (FT 88-40-27)
